Commemoration of the 95th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landings
Eligibility Criteria
There will be a veteran contingent travelling to Gallipoli, Turkey, with the New Zealand Government official delegation to the commemoration of the 95th anniversary of the Gallipoli Landings. The contingent of 22 veterans will be chosen by ballot.
In order to be eligible for the ballot you will need to have a direct family link to someone who served in the Gallipoli campaign and you must have served as member of the New Zealand Forces in one of the following:
- World War ll; or
- 2NZEF Japan (J Force); or
- Korea (K Force); or
- the Malaya/Borneo/Indonesia campaigns; or
- Vietnam; or
- Operation Grapple and Mururoa; or
- Peacekeeping operations up to the 1970s.
- Veterans who have previously been part of balloted veteran contingents as part of New Zealand delegations for other commemorations, will not be eligible for the Gallipoli 2010 ballot.
- The trip will be quite arduous. Veterans nominated will need to be able to walk uphill, unaided, for a minimum of 4 kilometres. In order to ensure that veterans drawn from the ballot are able to withstand the rigours of the journey they will be required to have a medical clearance. The information provided on the medical clearance questionnaire will be reviewed by a New Zealand Defence Force doctor who will make the decision on medical clearance to travel on the RNZAF aircraft.
- The veterans drawn from the ballot must be in possession of a current passport, with an expiry date of not less than six months from 1 May 2010. Any necessary visas will be arranged by Veterans' Affairs New Zealand.
Information
There will be no charge for travel to and from Gallipoli.
Cost of travel in New Zealand from home to point of departure and from point of arrival in New Zealand to return home will be at the expense of Veterans' Affairs New Zealand.
Accommodation, en route and in Gallipoli, will be at the expense of Veterans' Affairs New Zealand.
