Commemorations
Veterans' Affairs New Zealand is responsible for the coordination of New Zealand and participation in the commemoration of significant military anniversaries.
A ministerial discretionary fund has been established in recognition of the value attending commemorative events has for the servicemen and servicewomen who have served New Zealand.
Criteria for Funding
Applications to the fund can be made by:
- Veterans groups planning New Zealand based projects to commemorate the contribution made by veterans. This might include exhibitions, oral histories, memorials, booklets etc.
- Veterans groups planning national reunions to commemorate significant military anniversaries.
- Veterans who wish to attend official commemorations overseas or to revisit battlefield sites. The applicant must be a veteran of the New Zealand Forces, and a veteran of the battle or campaign being commemorated or revisited.
Funding Levels
The maximum amount funded for New Zealand commemorative events is $10 per veteran involved in the event up to a maximum of $5000. The amount funded for attendance at events overseas, or revisits of battlefield sites is decided dependent on the location being travelled to. The maximum individual grant is $2,000. Funding for other projects such as exhibitions, oral histories, memorials, or booklets is to a maximum of $5000. The amount funded is dependent on the total cost of the project.
