A veteran with war or operational service, and the veteran's spouse or partner, may have interment in a service cemetery. These service criteria are different than for service memorials:
- war or operational service must be verified for interment in a services cemetery
- Qualifying Operational Service [PDF, 229 KB], under the Veterans' Support Act, must be verified for entitlement to a service memorial.
Some local authorities may bury a spouse in the service cemetery only after the veteran's burial. (Responsibility for management of service cemeteries rests with cemetery authorities, not Veterans' Affairs).
