War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund
The War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund is constituted under the War Pensions Act 1954 and its purpose defined by the Act is to fund medical research into mental disorders, or other fields of medical research beneficial to members of the forces' In order to achieve this purpose, the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund can fund individual research projects or fund fellowships to qualified persons who would be able to contribute to the research being undertaken. The fund is administered by the War Pensions Advisory Board.
Primary Objective
The primary objective of the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund is to improve the health status of New Zealand veterans through research. This includes research into the cause, prevention and treatment of mental and physical disorders affecting veterans and their families.
Who Can Apply?
The Act allows that any researcher who is:
- ordinarily resident in New Zealand; or
- a person resident outside New Zealand, who will fulfil the purpose for which the fellowship is granted by means of a visit or the extension of a visit to New Zealand;
may submit a proposal for consideration by the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund. The procedure for making application is detailed below.
Funding Levels
The War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund has no maximum limit set for the funding of individual projects. The use of co-funding for costly or complex projects is encouraged. The level of funding is considered as part of the process of considering project inquiries.
Application Process
The War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund application process occurs in two stages:
- A project inquiry is submitted for consideration.
- If it is agreed that the project is an area to pursue, the applicant will be invited to submit a full project proposal.
