The project inquiry should be submitted using the following format.

  2. Purpose of the Research

Outline the reasons for conducting the research and detail of any involvement or interest by other organisations either as funders, supervisors or as groups with an interest in the research.

  3. Aims of the Research

Outline how this research will assist in improving the health status of New Zealand veterans.

  4. Summary of the Proposal

Describe the intended research design and the population for the study. This should include the procedures you intend to use to obtain the data and how you intend to analyse the data to meet the aims of your research.

Outline of any specific risks, physical, social, psychological or legal to participants, researchers or the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund.

  5. Timeframes

Provide the intended time frames for the research. Include an estimate of the timeframes for obtaining ethical or institutional approval for the proposal.

  6. Researcher/s

Outline your background, and the background of anyone else who would be involved in the process. Include details of any relevant qualifications and experience in the field of study.

  7. Budget

Outline the funding requirements for the study. Outline the details of any funding being sought from other research funders for this project.

  8. Referees

Include the names of two independent referees who can verify the research experience of the researcher/s.

Assessment of Applications

Applications for grants from the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund are assessed using the following criteria:

  • Applicant and project eligibility
  • Relevance of the proposed research
  • Overall feasibility of the project
  • Experience and competence of the research team.

While applicants are asked to provide the names of independent referees, the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund reserves the right to use another referee if it is considered that an additional or alternative perspective is required.

All applicants will be informed in writing of the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund decision. Where an invitation is made to submit a project proposal, the level of funding the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund is prepared to commit to the research project will be outlined.

Unsuccessful applicants will receive feedback on why their projects did not meet the criteria. Conditional approval may be given in some cases where further clarification is required.

Successful Proposals

When the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund accepts a proposal, an agreement between the researcher, or the institution they work for, and the War Pensions Medical Research Trust Fund will be put in place. This agreement outlines the responsibilities of the parties involved, intellectual property rights, publication constraints, payment and reporting dates. This agreement is subject to negotiation.
