Background
Ex-Service personnel who have had war service, or service in a specified armed conflict, peace-keeping force or other operation, and their spouses/partners may be buried in a Services Cemetery.

Specified Deployments
World War 1 - 1914-1918 War
Members of the New Zealand, Imperial, and Allied Forces who served overseas or at home between 4 August 1914 and 31 August 1921. Included are Service personnel who were attested for overseas service but did not proceed overseas; New Zealand servicemen who served in Home Service Units between 4 August 1914 and 31 August 1921; and those who served in the Merchant Navy in the waters of a war zone.
World War II - 1939-1945 War
Members of the New Zealand, Commonwealth and Allied Forces who served overseas or at home between 3 September 1939 and 31 December 1947. Included are New Zealand servicemen who were attested for overseas service but did not proceed overseas; New Zealand servicemen who served in Home Service Units between 3 September 1939 and 31 December 1947; and those who served in the Merchant Navy in the waters of a war zone.
Occupation of Japan
Members of the New Zealand, Commonwealth and Allied Forces who served with Occupation Forces in Japan between August 1945 and March 1949.
Berlin Airlift
Members of the New Zealand, Commonwealth and Allied Forces who flew in the Berlin Airlift between 1 September 1948 and 11 August 1949.
Korean War
Members of the New Zealand, Commonwealth and Allied Forces who served in Korea, or in Korean waters, between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1957.
India-Pakistan
Members of the New Zealand Armed Forces who served in the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) and the United Nations India-Pakistan Observation Mission (UNIPOM) between January 1952 and 31 March 1974.
Suez Crisis
Members of the crew of HMNZS Royalist who served in the Suez Crisis between 29 October and 5 November 1956.
United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO)
Members of the New Zealand Armed Forces who served in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO) in Palestine-Israel from July 1954 onwards and those who served in the following detachments:
- United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) in Jerusalem and Sinai in 1956-57;
- United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF I) 1956 to 1957;
- the United Nations Observer Group Lebanon (UNOGIL) in 1958;
- the United Nations Operation in the Congo (ONUC) in 1960-64;
- the United Nations Yemen Observer Mission (UNYOM) in 1963-1964;
- Second United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF II) October 1973 to 1979;
- the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights in 1974, 1982 and 1986;

Members of the crew of HMNZS Pukaki and HMNZS Rotoiti who served at Christmas and Malden Islands, during 1957 to 1958.
Malayan Emergency, Confrontation with Indonesia, Operations on the Thai Malay Border
Members of the New Zealand and Commonwealth Forces who served in the Federated States of Malaya, Borneo or surrounding waters between 16 June 1948 and 31 December 1966 as part of the Malayan Emergency or Indonesian Confrontation (Borneo). Personnel who served in operations on the Thai/Malay Border against communist insurgents between 1960 and 1964 are also eligible.
Vietnam War
Members of the New Zealand and Australian Armed Forces who served in Vietnam or in Vietnamese waters between 24 December 1962 and 24 December 1972.
Personnel of the United States of America, Korea and Thailand who defended the Republic of Vietnam, became New Zealand citizens and lived permanently in New Zealand immediately prior to their death are also eligible.
Thailand
Members of the New Zealand and Commonwealth Forces who served in Thailand in support of Operation Scorpion, Special Logistic Aid Thailand (SLAT) programme, Operation Crown and Thailand Feeder Road project, between 1962 and 1971.
Cyprus
Members of the New Zealand Police who served with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNCIVPOL) between May 1964 and June 1967.
Mururoa Atoll
Members of the crew of HMNZS Otago and HMNZS Canterbury sent to observe French nuclear tests at Mururoa Atoll on 22 and 28 July 1973.
Rhodesia
Members of the New Zealand and Commonwealth Forces who served in the Commonwealth Monitoring Force (CMF) in Rhodesia (Operation Midford) between 23 December 1979 and 5 March 1980.
Sinai
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served with the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in the Sinai Peninsula from 25 April 1982 to the current day.
Indian Ocean
Members of the crew of HMNZS Waikato and HMNZS Canterbury who served in Operation Armilla in the Indian Ocean between 21 June 1982 and 20 September 1983.
Pakistan and Afghanistan
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served with the United Nations Mine Clearing Training Team (UNMCTT) in Pakistan and Afghanistan between February 1989 and 31 December 1991.
Namibia
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Police who served with the United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG) in Namibia between April 1989 and March 1990.
The Gulf War
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served in the Gulf War operational area between 18 December 1990 and 13 April 1991.
Weapons Monitoring in Iraq
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Police who served with the United Nations Special Commission Iraq (UNSCOM) between June 1991 and December 1999.
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served with the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) between November 2002 and March 2003.
Bougainville
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served in Bougainville or surrounding waters in support of:
- Operation Big Talk between 29 July 1990 and 5 August 1990;

Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served with the United Nations Verification Missions (UNAVEM II and UNAVEM III), the United Nations Observer Mission (MONUA), the de-mining school (INAROEE) or were involved in the United Nations monitoring of elections in 1992 and overseeing the Peace Accords in Angola, all between July 1991 and June 1999.

Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served in Cambodia as part of:
- the United Nations Advance Mission in Cambodia (UNAMIC) between October 1991 and March 1992;

Members of the crew of HMNZS Wellington, HMNZS Canterbury and HMNZS Te Kaha, and members of the RNZN seconded to US vessels, who served with the Multinational Interception Force (MIF) between August 1995 and November 1999.
Laos
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served with the Laos National Unexploded Ordinance Programme (UXOL) between 1 July 1997 and 2003.
Kuwait
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served with the Coalition Joint Task Force in Kuwait (CTF - K) between 1998 and 2000.
Papua New Guinea Tsunami
Members of the New Zealand Defence Force who served in support of the Papua New Guinea tsunami relief in 1998.
Korea

Members of the New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Police who served as part of Operation Sumatra Assist in support of tsunami relief after the 2004 Indian Ocean (Boxing Day) tsunami between 27 December 2004 and 26 December 2005.
