Case Management

Veterans Affairs New ZealandCase management has now been adopted throughout VANZ as the means to provide veterans with a more personal level of service.

All veterans are assigned a case manager and it is intended that the case manager becomes a ‘one stop shop’ for any issues a veteran needs to have resolved.

Case managers will deal with all issues and liaise with other VANZ staff to solve problems. This saves veterans’ time and the frustration of trying to find someone who can deal with the matter.

Case managers enjoy having contact with veterans and are pleased to be able to assist directly and offer advice on veterans’ concerns.

Veterans who wish to make an application for a War Disablement Pension or have an existing disability reviewed should make contact with their case manager in the first instance.

Veterans who need service but who have not yet been assigned a case manager should contact VANZ by freephoning 0800 4 VETERANS (0800 483 8372) - or 64 4 495 2070 from overseas. The process is quick and our case managers are trained to help with all issues.

Case Management in the Community

To improve contact with veterans, the Minister of Veterans’ Affairs has directed VANZ to develop an initiative to take case management into the community.

This will involve VANZ case managers visiting locations around New Zealand, to meet veterans face to face. It is important for VANZ staff to have personal communication with veterans in their communities.

Meetings may be held at community locations or in some cases where veterans have health issues that prevent them from leaving home, calls to homes may be made.

The scheme is to be trialled at a small number of locations initially and expanded as staff are trained and the process is developed.

“These visits will allow both veterans and case managers to develop personal interaction out in the community,” Hon Judith Collins said.
