Travel Concession-Evidence or Travel in a Private Vehicle

In order for a Travel Concession payment to be made for a qualifying journey undertaken in a private vehicle, veterans need to provide evidence:

  • of where they started and ended each journey;
  • of the type of transport they used to undertake each journey; and
  • that travel was undertaken as a single trip of 80 kms or more rather than a series of smaller trips.

  • If a veteran starts and ends a journey at localities (city or town) that have a service station or equivalent fuel provider, the veteran must provide original full EFTPOS or GST receipts for fuel purchased at both the starting locality (at the beginning of the journey) and at the destination (at the end of the journey).

    If a veteran starts and/or ends a journey at a location that does not have a service station or equivalent fuel provider, the veteran must provide:

  • an original full EFTPOS or GST receipt for a purchase made at the nearest locality to the starting location and/or destination; and

  • original full EFTPOS or GST receipts for • fuel purchased from the nearest service station or equivalent fuel provider to the starting location and/or destination based on his or her direction of travel.

  • Further information regarding the evidence required is available at: www.veteransaffairs.mil.nz
