Non-military personnel

Non-military personnel can have Qualifying Operational Service in certain circumstances.

You may have Qualifying Service if you were deployed on a qualifying operation while you were:

  • a member of the Civil Staff of the NZ Defence Force, or
  • seconded to the NZ Defence Force.

Qualifying Service explained

Known cases where non-military personnel have Qualifying Operational Service include:

  • the civilian medical team that was in Viet Nam from 1 December 1963 to 31 March 1975
  • NZ Police deployed as part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
