From 1 April 2026, reimbursements for GP and prescription charges will be processed by ProCare

Procare Appointment

On 1 April 2026, the providers for invoicing Veterans’ Affairs for veterans’ GP consultations and prescriptions will change from Green Cross to ProCare. This change was made following a standard Government procurement process.

As before, we will pay for a veteran’s GP consultation and any prescriptions resulting from it if they are related to an accepted condition that is listed on the veteran’s Treatment Card.

For veterans, the only change will be that their GP will provide them with a voucher for their prescription to show to their pharmacist. The voucher informs the pharmacist about how to be reimbursed for the veteran’s prescription charges.

For Viet Nam veterans, the change to ProCare will not affect the Annual Medical Assessment in any way.

We will begin communicating this change to veterans in March. Prior to those communications, ProCare will be reaching out to GP practices and pharmacies to inform them of the change.

GP practices and pharmacies will be asked to sign up to ProCare’s platform so that reimbursements can be made by ProCare.

Practices and pharmacies can still receive veteran appointments and prescriptions after 1 April if they aren’t on ProCare’s system, but ProCare and Veterans’ Affairs are encouraging them to sign on to ProCare’s platform to expedite their payment.

For any questions about the ProCare platform, please email veteran.services@procare.co.nz
