Nominations open for Invictus Games 2027

Invictus Games Campaign 2027

Serious injury or illness can have profound and enduring effects on Sailors, Soldiers, and Aviators, physically, psychologically, and socially. Whether sustained on operations or during service at home, such injuries can result in sudden and significant changes to military careers, identity, and lifestyle.

Through the transformative power of sport and competition, the Invictus Games provide an opportunity for recovery, reconnection, reintegration, and renewal of purpose, while celebrating courage, resilience, and the resolute spirit of ill, wounded, and injured personnel.

The Chief of Defence Force has accepted an invitation from the Invictus Games Foundation for New Zealand to send a NZDF team of up to 19 competitors and 10 management and support staff to the Invictus Games 2027 (IG27), to be held in Birmingham, United Kingdom from 10–17 July 2027. Building on the success of the 2025 campaign, Lieutenant Colonel Greg Josephs has been retained as Team Manager and will lead the IG27 campaign with support from the Adaptive Sports Committee.

The call for nominations for travelling support staff positions, including an Assistant Team Manager, will be out soon, with competitor nominations to follow. In addition, non-travelling support staff will be sought to assist with competitor training and preparation throughout the lead-up to the Games. Details regarding selection camps, training camps, and the pre-deployment camp will be confirmed in due course.

Selection for the NZDF IG27 Team will be open to serving and former-serving NZDF military personnel who reside in New Zealand. Full eligibility and selection criteria for competitors will be published as part of the application process. Support staff applicants will require command clearance, recognising the time commitment and responsibilities associated with supporting the campaign over its duration.
