Changes to the lists of Statements of Principles, June 2025

The Statements of Principles (SOPs) are a tool to determine if an injury, illness, or death is service-related.

On 26 June, 32 replacement Statements of Principles and four new Statements of Principles come into force in New Zealand.

Replacement SOPs

  • arachnoid cyst
  • benign prostatic hyperplasia
  • clonorchiasis
  • eating disorder
  • ganglion
  • ischaemic heart disease
  • Lyme disease/Lyme borreliosis [Name has changed from Lyme disease]
  • malignant neoplasm of the endometrium
  • malignant neoplasm of the urethra
  • opisthorchiasis
  • otosclerosis
  • peritoneal adhesions
  • polymyalgia rheumatica
  • pterygium
  • tooth loss [Name has changed from loss of teeth]
  • visual refractive error [Name has changed from myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism].

New SOPs

  • distal biceps brachii tendinopathy
  • traumatic brachial plexopathy.
