Minor Changes to Two Statements of Principles, 25 September 2026

On 25 September 2026 minor changes were made under section 24 of the Veterans’ Support Act 2014 to the Statements of Principles for chronic multisymptom illness.

Minor amendment Statements of Principles 48/2026 and 49/2026 for chronic multisymptom illness have been compiled with the principal Statements of Principles for this condition 3/2020 and 4/2020.

The amendments include:

  • deletion of the Note in section 4 of the principal Statements of Principles which indicated that the SOP for chronic multisymptom illness was determined in 2014 following an investigation concerning Gulf War syndrome in October 2012; and
  • insertion of an additional criterion at subsection 7(2) which the condition must meet, namely: “the symptoms are not better explained by another medical condition, including but not limited to, moderate to severe traumatic brain injury, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Gulf War Illness, somatic symptom disorder or posttraumatic stress disorder”.
