Before you deploy, can we tell you about Veterans’ Affairs?

About Veterans’ Affairs

We are a unit of NZDF. Our role is to support eligible veterans if they have a health condition related to their qualifying service. We are kind of like an ACC for NZDF and for eligible personnel.

You get eligibility for our support when you go on a deployment that gets declared as Qualifying Operational Service. That declaration can be made prior, during or after the deployment. It's based on the risk level of that deployment.

If your deployment is declared as Qualifying Operational Service (QOS) you are eligible for support from Veterans’ Affairs.

Our support includes treatment and rehabilitation, financial support, vocational support and help around the home.

While you are in service, NZDF looks after your all your health needs, but after you leave NZDF (and if you have eligibility) Veterans’ Affairs can provide you with support.

Stay in touch

We understand that you aren't thinking ‘life after your NZDF’ just now, but we are keen to ensure that you know about the support that might be available to you, if you need it, after you leave NZDF.

Please sign-up to our email newsletter (with your personal email address) and stay in touch with us.
